    Fen Öğretmenlerinin Bilimin Doğası Görüşleri ve Öğretimleri Nasıldır? Bir Sınıf İçi Araştırması

    The purposes of this study were to investigate science teachers’ nature of science (NOS) views so as to determine how their views influence their instructional practices. Seventy four science teachers and five teachers in a big city in Turkey were selected purposefully as the sample of this study. A sub-set of 18 relevant items from Views on Science-Technology-Society (VOSTS) Questionnaire were used to assess teachers’ NOS views. Semi-structured interviews and class observations were conducted with these five “case” teachers in order to allow them fully express their views and instructional practices. The data analysis revealed that the participating science teachers held naïve views on many dimensions of the NOS. Furthermore, it was found that teachers’ views did not directly influence their classroom practices. We also observed that the perceived curriculum, the high stakes examinations, expectations of school administrators, students, and parents were the most important factors influencing teachers’ decisions regarding classroom practicesBu araştırmanın amacı, fen öğretmenlerinin bilimin doğası hakkındaki görüşlerini incelemek ve bu görüşlerin onların sınıf içi uygulamalarını nasıl etkilediğini belirlemektir. Araştırmanın katılımcıları Türkiye’deki bir büyükşehirde görev yapmakta olan 74 fen öğretmenidir. Öğretmenlerin bilimin doğası hakkındaki görüşleri, literatürde kısaca VOSTS olarak bilinen Bilim-Teknoloji-Toplum anketinden seçilmiş olan 18 madde ile değerlendirilmiştir. Öğretmenlerin görüşlerini sınıf uygulamalarına nasıl yansıttıklarını belirlemek amacıyla gönüllülük esasına dayalı olarak durum çalışmasına alınan beş öğretmen ile yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler ve sınıf içi gözlemleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. Veri analizleri sonucunda, katılımcı öğretmenlerin bilimin doğasının birçok boyutu hakkında naif görüşlere sahip oldukları ortaya çıkmıştır. Aynı zamanda öğretmenlerin bu görüşlerinin sınıf uygulamalarına doğrudan etki etmediği görülmüştür.     PROSPECTIVE SCIENCE TEACHERS’ VIEWS ON CAREER PLANNING AND THEIR SELF-EFFICACY LEVELS FOR CAREER DECISION-MAKING

    The aim of this survey study was to determine prospective science teachers’ competency levels in making career decisions and to determine their views on career planning. The participants were 88 prospective middle school science teachers enrolled at the Science Teaching Program of a state university during the spring 2018. The data were collected through the Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy Scale (CDSS) (Ulaş & Yıldırım, 2016) and open-ended, written extended response questions prepared by the researcher. The findings revealed that for career decision-making, the participants had high efficacy levels; they were predominantly doing their own career planning; and that they were influenced by their family members’ views. They envisioned career planning as a long-term process starting at birth and encompassing the whole school and professional lives. The majority thought that their career decisions affected every aspect of their lives

    A review of researches on STEM in preservice teacher education

    As the research on STEM education has begun to gain momentum in literature, the need for STEM education in the field of teacher training has been emphasized. Considering that STEM education plays an increasingly important role in teacher education both in our country and in the world, it is necessary to investigate the literature review that will guide these studies. According to the criteria determined in this study, 76 studies published between January 2001 and December 2018 were examined by using systematic review. These 76 studies are summarized under the categories of research, type of research, method research group, validity-reliability report, data collection tools, educational material, country of publication. The results of the research indicate that applied qualitative research methods are used mostly in preservice teacher education, the studies have increased significantly in the last three years, simple tools as education material are used mainly, and interview forms were preferred as the data collection tool.     DEVELOPING PRE-SERVICE SCIENCE TEACHERS' COGNITIVE STRUCTURES ABOUT TECHNOLOGY: WORD ASSOCIATION TEST (WAT)

    The purpose of this study was to examine the development of senior pre-service science teachers' cognitive structures about technology. Cognitive structures about technology were investigated by using a Word Association Test (WAT). In order to construct the WAT, eight words were selected. WAT was used as a pre- post test to thirty senior pre-service science teachers. The study constructed in spring semester 2010. Pre-service teachers designed technology supported instruction and presented to their peers who acted as pupils. In the analyze procedure, meaningful responses were accepted and counted for each key word than frequency table was prepared. Concept map was drawn by using the frequency table. To draw concept maps, the cut-off point was determined to be 25-up. Also t-test pair wise comparisons were calculated. When the pre-concept maps were examined, it was found that pre-service science teachers' cognitive structures about technology were generally at the novice level. For example, they associate educational technology with computers. Furthermore, when the post- concept maps were examined pre-service science teachers' responses were improved in general.     The purpose of this study was to investigate teacher candidates’ understandings of momentum and impulse and the relationships that they create in a concept map about these concepts. The data were collected towards the end of 2002 spring semester from 66 participants. They were asked to construct their own individual concept maps about momentum and impulse. Participants’ concept maps were analyzed and it was found that although they included a number of concepts in their concept maps they had difficulty in creating meaningful relationships and as a result had many missing links among concepts.Bu çalışmada, öğretmen adaylarının kavram haritası yöntemi kullanarak momentum ve impuls kavramlarını nasıl anladıkları ve bu kavramlar arasında kurdukları bağlantıyı araştırmak amaçlanmıştır. 2001-2002 eğitim öğretim yılının bahar döneminin sonunda toplam 66 katılımcıyla bir uygulama yapılmıştır. Öğretmen adaylarından momentum ve impuls ile ilgili kavram haritası çizmeleri istenmiş ve her öğrenci kendi kişisel kavram haritasını oluşturmuştur. Uygulamada elde edilen kavram haritalarının analizi yapılmış ve sonuçta katılımcıların momentum ve impuls ile ilgili olduğunu belirttikleri kavram sayısı fazla olmasına rağmen bu kavramlar arasında ilişki kurmada eksiklik olduğu ve güçlük çekildiği bulunmuştur

    Prevalence of dual left anterior descending artery variations in CT angiography

    PURPOSEWe aimed to evaluate the frequency and features of dual left anterior descending artery (LAD) variants using computed tomography (CT) angiography.METHODSA total of 1337 consecutive coronary CT angiography examinations performed between April 2010 and December 2013 were retrospectively evaluated for the presence of dual LAD. CT examinations were performed with either 64- or 320-row multidetector CT scanners. All CT angiography images were evaluated for the presence and morphologic features of dual LAD subtypes.RESULTSFifty-six dual LAD variations (4%) were identified in this study population. Type 1 was the most common type of dual LAD (n=48), while Type 3 (n=3) and Type 4 (n=2) were infrequent and Type 2 was not detected. Additionally, we detected previously unclassified dual LAD variations in three cases.CONCLUSIONDual LAD may be a relatively more common variant than described in the medical literature, which is mostly based on catheter angiography studies. Coronary CT angiography seems markedly efficacious for detecting and documenting the anatomical details of dual LAD subtypes, as well as showing other associated cardiocoronary anomalies

    Bilimin doğası hakkındaki görüşlerin değerlendirilmesinde alternatif bir yöntem kısa hikâyeler yöntemi.

    Bu çalışmanın amacı fen bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının bilimin doğası hakkındaki görüşlerini değerlendirmek için kısa hikâye yönteminin etkililiğini ortaya koymaktır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda çalışmada kullanılan kısa hikâyelerin ve onları puanlamak için kullanılan rubriklerin geçerlik, güvenirlik çalışmalarına yer verilmiştir. Çalışma, toplamda 169 öğretmen adayının katılımıyla pilot ve asıl uygulama olmak üzere iki aşamada gerçekleştirilmiştir. Pilot uygulama 2009 yılında doksan öğretmen adayıyla; asıl uygulama ise 2010 yılının bahar döneminde yetmiş dokuz öğretmen adayıyla Bilimin Doğası ve Tarihi dersinde yapılmıştır. Bilimin gelişimsellik, test edilebilirlik ve yaratıcılık boyutlarına ilişkin verileri kapsayan bu çalışmada; yapılan analizlerle kısa hikâyelerin (KH) geçerlik ve güvenirliğine ilişkin olumlu sonuçlar elde edilmiştir. KH’lerin bilimin doğası hakkındaki görüşleri saptamada bir yöntem olarak kullanılabileceği yapılan analizlerle ortaya konulmuştur.: An Alternative Method For Assessing Views About The Nature of Science: Vignettes The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the short stories (vignette) for assessing the pre service science teachers' views about the nature of science. For this purpose, the validity and reliability studies of vignettes and rubrics used in the research are given. The research comprised two stages: the pilot and the authentic application. The piloting was carried out in 2009 spring term with the participation of 90 pre service science teachers who had taken History and Nature of Science course while the main study included 79 pre service teachers in 2010 spring term. At the end of the analyses positive results were obtained as to the validity and reliability of vignettes. It was understood that vignettes can be used as a method of determining opinions on the nature of science

    Bu çalışmanın amacı teknoloji destekli öğretimlerim fen bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının teknolojik pedagojik alan bilgisi (TPAB) özgüvenlerine ve fen öğretiminde bilgisayar kullanımına yönelik öz-yeterlik inançlarına etkisini incelemektir. Bu amaçla 6., 7., ve 8. sınıf düzeyinde kuvvet ve hareket üniteleri seçilmiş ve deneysel bir araştırma tasarlanmıştır. Çalışmaya bir büyükşehir üniversitesindeki bahar döneminde, fen bilgisi öğretmenliği son sınıfında öğrenim gören 30 öğretmen adayı katılmıştır. Çalışma verilerinin toplanabilmesi için TPAB özgüven ölçeği ve bilgisayar kullanımına yönelik öz-yeterlik inancı ölçeğinin uyarlama çalışmaları yapılmıştır. 30 öğretmen adayından elde edilen verilerin analizi SPSS 17.0 programı ile yapılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular teknoloji destekli öğretimlerin fen bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının TPAB özgüvenlerini, fen öğretiminde bilgisayar kullanımına yönelik öz-yeterlik inançlarını gelişimine etkili olduğunu göstermektedir
